“John Bulian is the kind of leader that explores all sides of an issue,  asks good questions and  seeks well-reasoned solutions. John takes the time to forge consensus on issues and works diligently to see them through implementation.”

Bulian served with perspicacity and care
As a Selectman, John Bulian has served the Needham community with perspicacity and care over the past six years. While maintaining a penchant for fiscal responsibility, he has strengthened our schools and our town infrastructure, and watches out for our seniors and children alike. He welcomes feedback from his constituents and can be counted on to follow through. John has earned his selectman seat and we hope you will join us in voting for him on April 14.

Handel and Bulian both strong candidates
Needham is fortunate to have several intelligent, experienced and thoughtful candidates for selectman this year. While each has impressive credentials, I am writing on behalf of the two candidates whose years and breadth of experience have earned my support. After 10 years on the School Committee, I’m particularly interested in public education, and I’m pleased to endorse Moe Handel and John Bulian for their support of the schools, their intelligent approach to leadership, their willingness to listen and hear all points of view, and their ability to work with others to do what’s best for everyone.
A strong school supporter, Moe Handel has been a fixture in Needham civic life for many years, having served on numerous town and non-profit boards. He often emerges as leader, as he has both the passion and skill to succeed in a leadership role. Moe led the effort to relocate the old schoolhouse to its current location at Newman, where it now enhances education for many Needham children. He also launched and steered the decision to restore the auditorium hidden above the second floor of Town Hall. While there were many skeptics and issues to be addressed on this latter issue, I was especially impressed that even as a strong advocate for restoration, Moe was also able to engineer a compromise. He recognized the legitimate arguments on all sides, and promoted a resolution that satisfied all parties. That is real leadership. John Bulian has earned my endorsement with his extensive work as a selectman, his unflagging support of public education even before his election, his creative approach to solving problems, and the depth and breadth of his connection into the community. Contrary to remarks made in last week’s Times by Ms. Horrigan, I have worked closely with John on many education-related issues and know him to be a creative planner, a thoughtful listener, and a dedicated supporter of public education. John is easy to work with because he can see the different sides of issues and works collaboratively to develop solutions that best serve everyone’s needs. John has been a leader during his first two terms, and I look forward to his service on the board for many years to come Please join me in supporting these two strong candidates for Board of Selectmen.

Bulian is a leader
I’m voting for John Bulian for Selectman, and I’d like to encourage everyone to vote for him, too.
As Needham looks at a growing list of critical needs, it is also facing a difficult financial future. There will be many tough decisions in the next three years, and if ever there was a time when Needham needed an experienced leader, it is now. John is that leader. He’s running for his third term, and has never lost his energy or thirst for hard work. He remains very accessible to every Needham citizen. John will articulate his positions well and listen to your concerns. Other letter-writers have enumerated John’s many achievements as a selectman. There are so many, I won’t list them. However, I’d like to remind everyone that he’s been a key part of our town’s leadership team that has planned wisely and put Needham on a more sound fiscal foundation than most cities and towns in the state. As we face an uncertain future, we can trust John to listen, work hard, do what’s best for Needham, and keep it a great place to live and raise our families. Vote for John Bulian on April 14.

Bulian has clear vision for town
In these challenging times, Needham would do well to elect town leaders who have a clear vision of the town’s priorities, who are fiscally responsible, and who have a proven track record of dedication and loyalty to the community. For these reasons, we are supporting John Bulian for selectman in the April 14 election. John is a successful small business owner who, while helping to raise two children, has fully dedicated himself to town government over the last several years. During his tenure as selectman, he has given countless hours of his time to advance well known projects like the construction of new school buildings while at the same time working more quietly behind the scenes to understand the specific needs and concerns of citizens from all over town. In talking with John about the development of a new Senior Center, to which he is fully committed, or about the multiple and often financially conflicting needs of the town, it is hard not to be impressed by his vast knowledge and his fairness. As those who know John can attest, he is a great listener, incredibly bright, and open-minded. He brings an unending energy and enthusiasm to his work for our town and has demonstrated an ability to work collaboratively with others toward the common goal of continuing to make Needham a desirable place to live and raise a family. Please vote on April 14 and join us in re-electing John Bulian for selectman.

Bulian has the experience
I am writing to urge Needham voters to re-elect John Bulian as selectman for the town of Needham. John has the experience, having already served on the board for six years, and during his time as selectman, he has helped make sure we have the school space we need, the town services we all rely on and a tax burden that’s lower than surrounding towns. I had the pleasure of working with John Bulian this past year on “The Wall That Heals” project. As a Vietnam veteran, I was interested in helping bring that exhibit to Needham, so when John asked for my help, I was happy to assist. His energy and management style helped make the event a success, and I was impressed with the manner in which he worked with town government, local organizations and volunteers. I was proud to see Needham honor its Vietnam veterans, and John was key to the whole effort. As a long-time Needham resident, and taxpayer, I am grateful that we have John Bulian on the Board of Selectmen. Let’s elect him to another three years on April 14.

Bulian works hard for the people of Needham
Please join us in supporting John Bulian for re-election on April 14. John works hard for the people of Needham. While there are always difficult issues we have to balance, I have found John to be open-minded to different ideas and willing to listen to all points of view. I know that when he makes a decision, it’s because he believes it is in the best interest of the town. I have also found John to earnestly follow through on the commitments he makes. There are two functions of town that are particularly close to me — the library and Memorial Park. John has been a strong supporter of the library. John has also been the Board of Selectman’s representative to the Memorial Park Trustees, where he strongly believes in Memorial Park as an institution and as a resource. John was instrumental in bringing the Vietnam Wall That Heals to Memorial Park last October, which was visited by thousands of people. The Board of Selectmen will be getting two new members between last year and this year. We believe the experience John brings to the board is of immeasurable value.

Bulian’s been at ‘center of Needham’s success’
As a selectman for the last six years, John Bulian has been at the center of Needham’s success as a community. He has led or worked collaboratively to: implement the town manager position; driving greater efficiency in managing Needham’s budget and operations; secure new construction, maximizing state contributions and responsibly designing what we need for what we can afford; and maintain Needham’s AAA bond rating, one of only 14 towns in Massachusetts to have the highest rating and, therefore, the lowest interest rate on bonds. In these difficult economic times, we need proven, experienced hands directing our infrastructure improvements and operations. Of the five members of the Board of Selectmen, two will certainly have one year or less of service. We need John’s experience more than ever to ensure that Needham continues to be a vibrant, caring and fiscally responsible community for all our residents. Please join us in casting your vote for John Bulian.

Bulian is dedicated to the town
We are writing to ask the voters of Needham to join us in re-electing John Bulian to the Board of Selectmen. John has shown his dedication to our town in his years of dedicated service. He’s a fiscally responsible selectman who works hard to balance the needs of all Needham’s residents. Please join us in voting for John Bulian on Tuesday, April 14.

School Committee member backs Bulian and Brightman
John Bulian has served the town well for the past six years. John is a “grassroots” candidate. As far as I can tell, no selectman touches more Needham people in the course of a week than John Bulian. He is constantly listening, learning and explaining the ins and outs of Needham to everyone he meets. His vision, drive and dedication in bringing The Wall That Heals to Needham last fall, in a very tight timeframe, is commendable. He has a long history of support for school issues, and I appreciate his efforts on the schools’ behalf. I believe his experience deserves a return vote to the board. Secondly, consider the expertise gap created with Jim Healy leaving the board. Jim has been the “go to” man for all things financial. He worked closely with the Town Manager and the Finance Committee to plot Needham’s course to financial sustainability. Scott Brightman is the candidate to continue that course. Scott Brightman learned the town’s budget thoroughly over his past four years on the Finance Committee. He understands the needs and visions of various departments and has worked to weigh those as part of the whole. While Scott has not been a liaison to the School Department, he has stayed in touch and committed time to understanding the school budget each year. His voice on the Finance Committee has been instrumental in gaining the recommended school department budget over the last few years. Scott strongly advocated for the Senior Center a year ago and continues his support as the Senior Center Exploratory Committee works to bring a revised project back to the town. Scott is committed to sustainability. He knows this means separating our wants from our needs. The right decisions now ensure we can meet our needs over the coming years, and Scott brings a balanced perspective to spending the Town’s limited resources responsibly.
